The Chicken and the Pig
"Mike – Govt is all about reaction. No forward thinking involved at all. They are about reacting to a political need, right now, today!!
Long range thinking is antithetical to their whole being. They will plan and wax philosophical about needs and direction and scoping and all that bureau-babble, but nothing really happens. A plan is one thing; a plan implemented is another. What I have seen in my lifetime is plans made but not implemented, and then crisis intervention. Pissing into the wind comes to mind.
What I have known for a long time, and now is coming out in print, with real names, qualifications, and zones of influence, is that the “scientists” who allow faux scientists, hangers-on, layabouts, and louts all to have their names added to the list of scientists signing a political statement … there’s a lot of humor in that deal. Reminds me of the drone pilots bombing targets in Iraq from the comfort of a war room in south Florida.
It’s called Involved but not Invested, or Concerned but not Committed. Like the chicken and the pig in the ham and eggs scenario; the chicken is involved, but the pig is committed.
The science world is really about being a ‘ho fer dough’ as in nothing happens until someone or something pays. The whole wolfie deal, the fire deal, the spotty owl deal, are all about money. Who gets money to study what. What kind of neato-jet study deal can I get paid to do and have a whole lot of fun doing, especially if grad students do it for me?
I go back to my idea to get a grant to study human obesity in Yellowstone NP. How cool would it be to dart fat people, weigh them, take a DNA sample, pull a tooth, cut some hair, swab some skin, take a bunch of blood samples, check for parasites, attach a radio transmitter with gps upgrades, and then let them go “free.”
And then track their movements. Have some scales about on the walkways to the geysers and convenience stores, and check fat person weights. Download the store computers for what the fat people bought. Do some real science on how people get to pack on the weight while the wild animals in their surroundings stay slim.
Science. Real science. And have a control group of random not-fat folks. Do the same to them. All for science.
Absurd as it may sound, you have to wonder how many critters have given up and died, or lost their edge to survive, just because the science types have inflicted the above “scientific methods” on them.
There should be a research-related mortality study tagged to the obesity study. How many of the study fatties got sepsis or infections from tooth taking, bad blood sampling, dirty needles, etc.? Or from the transmitter chip implants. Or from the bar code branded onto their foreheads.
My point, and I really do have one, is that fuel is what burns, and the more fuel, the hotter the fire.
Wolves eat prey. When the prey runs out, wolves die or find a new prey base. Spotted owls are predators and prey at the same time. Why are they being killed at unsustainable rates? How many studies by how many people kill the study critter?
Do the ravens and crows follow people to the marbled murrelet tree? Sure. To the snowy plover nest? Sure. All this stuff is simple and direct.
I suspect the spotted owl program does not employ enough people, and the solution offered will result in even less people being employed everywhere else.
Now you have to tell me why I should care."

End Of Days

Congressman Brian Bilbray (R.-Calif.), released the following statement today:
“The ‘compromise’ announced today by Senator Kennedy will reward 12 million illegal immigrants with a path to citizenship – what part of illegal does the Senate not understand? Any plan that rewards illegal behavior is amnesty. You would think that the Senate would have learned their lesson after the 1986 amnesty debacle, but it looks like their idea of a ‘compromise’ is to repeat the failed policies of the past.”
What makes you think that this will work? This is a Trojan horse that is not filled with migrant farm workers , masons, and maids. This is an invading army whose hoards have already made it abundantly clear that they are here to do as they please because it is their right and this is there ancestral homeland. Trash, drugs, and crime are the calling card and failed hospitals, schools, and social services are their legacy. Thousands of illegal aliens waving the flags of foreign countries demand rights Americans citizens died to defend. Not here to assimilate into our culture they demand we accept theirs and speak their tongue when doing so. My question is if this legislation is based on the premise that all they have to do is follow the rules and behave to obtain citizenship, why did they not do so in the first place? I am to understand that if I trespass, steal an identity, work under the table, steal from the public coffers, make babies to bring the rest of the family here, I will get rewarded with all the benefits of a country that call not afford to provide them. What am I missing here?

Took Mrs. Dinosaur to see 300 yesterday, and really enjoyed it. Not in a homoerotic sorta of way, more like the Charge of the Light Brigade way. Worth the price of admission.
Not much blogging lately, working on the remodeling project and the subsequent Mission Creep that goes with it takes most of my time. Maybe I will post some progress pics.............
